Firewall

What firewall should I use to protect myself?

I guess this question really has three answers. Depending on what category of computer user you are, the answer is different. I'll try to make this simple.

Note: Right now I only have information for Windows XP users.

Do you have Windows XP? If the answer is no, then I don't have a solution typed out for you yet. If the answer is yes, you should use the firewall that is built into Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). It is enabled by default when you install SP2, but if you want to make sure, you can go to "Control Panel"->"Security Center" and check to see if there is a green dot by Firewall that says "ON". If it says "OFF" or "UNKNOWN", then you can turn it on by going to the bottom of the dialog box under "Manage security settings for:" and click "Windows Firewall", then click "On (Recommended)" and click ok. :)
